COVID-19 Information

This page offers information and resources for Lawrence County Memorial Hospital patients and the community, including steps to take if you are concerned you may have coronavirus.
   

 


The information and guidelines below are based on information from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control).

Do you currently have a fever greater than or equal to 100° F (37.8° C)?
Do you have a cough?
Do you have shortness of breath?
Do you have a sore throat?
Are you experiencing chills?
Do you have newly developed muscle pain?
Do you have a severe headache?
Are you experiencing new loss of smell or taste?
Do you have diarrhea or vomiting?
Have you had these symptom(s) for three (3) days or more?

You do not meet the clinical criteria for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). If symptoms worsen, please contact your primary care provider.

COVID-19 Signs & Symptoms
Reported symptoms have ranged from mild to severe.  Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
If you are having trouble breathing, experience pain in your chest, are confused, or have bluish lips or face, get medical attention immediately by calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency department.
 
What To Do If You Are Sick
If you develop fever, cough and/or shortness of breath,
and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19,
OR
If you have fever, cough and/or shortness of breath,
and have recently traveled from an area with significant community spread or known concentrated outbreaks,
please follow these recommendations:

 
Call ahead to discuss your symptoms and if you should be tested.
  • Call 618-943-7214 (option # 5) 8 AM – 8 PM Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 1 PM Saturday & Sunday to talk to a triage nurse. Other times call 618-943-1000.
  • If it is determined that you should be seen at a facility, the nurse will give you instructions on where to go and what to do.
 
Note:  Some people are at higher risk for COVID-19 complications, including:
  • Older adults
  • Patients with chronic health conditions such as diabetes; lung, kidney or heart diseases; as well as patients who smoke
  • Patients with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy or taking certain types of medications
  • These higher-risk patients who experience COVID-19 symptoms should contact their provider immediately. 
 
Protecting Our Patients & Employees
  • Patients who are hospitalized are already vulnerable to serious illness, and we also must protect our employees. 
  • Visitor Screenings and Restrictions 
  • However, further visitor screening processes and visitor restrictions may follow. 
Self-Care at Home for Mild Symptoms
  • Stay home unless you need to leave for medical care. 
  • Separate yourself from other people and animals in your home. Stay in a specific room and use a separate bathroom, if possible. 
  • Use a mask, cover your coughs and wash your hands frequently.
  • See more self-care information from the CDC.  
Prevention
The CDC recommends everyday preventive actions to help reduce the spread of this illness:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash your hands well and frequently—at least 20 seconds with soap and water or with hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover cough/sneeze with a tissue, and then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean/disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • The CDC does not recommend that healthy/uninfected individuals use a mask to prevent becoming ill.
